Captain Jamil Abubakar has denied supporting the brutal murder of Deborah Samuel, last week in Sokoto, as widely circulated in the media.

He said his tweet on the issue was grossly misunderstood, mis-interpreted and given mischievous headlines by some unscrupulous elements.

In a statement made available to our correspondent and signed by him, he said:

“My attention has been drawn to some publications, suggesting that Captain Jamil Abubakar is in support of the gruesome killing of Deborah Samuel, a student of ShehuShagari college of Education Sokoto over alleged blasphemy, a lot of people read my tweets without understanding me. The headlines didn’t help either.  I have NEVER advocated for one’s life to be taken or people taking laws into their own hands”.

“We would have chosen to ignore the twisted publication, but we are constrained to respond not only because of the sensitive nature of the matter, but also, to set the records straight.”

The statement further maintained that: “It is necessary to mention for the avoidance of doubts that Captain Jamil Abubakar is a devout Muslim, but his tweets in no way implied brazen support for the murder of Deborah Samuel or anyone else.”

“We want to state categorically here that Captain Abubakar is a law-abiding citizen, and for what it’s worth, he will NOT support or be a part of any organization that supports jungle justice or any conduct that does not promote the rule of law.”
