The penultimate weekend was a hive of activities for Cricova, owners of the world’s largest wine cellar and the second-largest winery, as they signed a landmark trade agreement with Lagarde France—one of the leading global firms in luxury retail and distribution.
The historic signing took place in Paris on March 12, 2025, in the presence of Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, and Sorin Maslo, CEO of the state-owned Cricova S.A.
Africa’s Presence in the Celebration
Africa played a significant role in the event, with Dr. Onyeka C. Ogbatu (Don Pee), CEO of Don Pee Wine and Beverages Ltd, representing Cricova’s African market. His presence underscored Africa’s growing partnership in the global wine industry, particularly through Nigeria and Ghana, where Cricova’s influence is expanding.
From Paris, the Cricova jet flew to Düsseldorf, Germany, carrying the winery’s management team for the prestigious International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits (March 16-18, 2025).
Accolades for Don Pee at Düsseldorf
A high point of the fair was the meeting between the Cricova Management Team and Don Pee Wine and Beverages Ltd. Dr. Onyeka Ogbatu and his team received widespread commendations for their role in introducing Cricova’s premium wines to Africa.
Among the dignitaries who honored Don Pee’s contributions were Aureliu Ciocoi, Former Moldovan Foreign Affairs Minister and current Ambassador to Germany and Ludmila Catla Buga, Minister of Agriculture, Republic of Moldova
They both praised Don Pee Wine and Beverages Ltd. for its commitment to Cricova’s expansion across Africa.
Special Recognition and Gifts
To appreciate the African team’s dedication, Cricova presented an Appreciation Letter to De Imperial Philanthropic Family for adopting Cricova as their official brand. A 1982 Reserve Pastoral Red Sweet Wine case to Chief Dr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi (CEO, Teka Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Nigeria) in honor of his birthday.
