The event, titled “Menstrual Hygiene Day: Ensuring Menstrual Hygiene and Dignity in Nigeria Prisons,” will take place on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri.
Period poverty, the lack of access to menstrual products, proper facilities, and education about menstrual hygiene, remains a significant challenge in prison settings. Incarcerated women often face additional hardships due to limited resources and support. The African Eye Foundation recognizes the importance of addressing this issue and aims to raise awareness while advocating for policy reforms and improved access to menstrual hygiene products within the prison system.
Dr. Uddy Allen, the passionate founder of the African Eye Foundation and a dedicated medical practitioner, will lead the resource team at the event the event. Dr. Allen’s expertise and experience in the field make her a prominent voice on the importance of addressing menstrual hygiene and dignity for incarcerated women and the senzitization program that will culminate with donation of self care items to the female prisoners, will shed light on the significance of this issue and emphasize the need for comprehensive menstrual hygiene management in prisons.
The event will bring together experts, stakeholders, and advocates to discuss strategies for ensuring menstrual hygiene and dignity for incarcerated women in Nigeria.
