As part of the side events of the 5th African Elders and Women Intercultural Dialogue, taking place in Accra Ghana from the 29th to 1st August in commemoration of the 2025 International Day for prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Silver bird Cinema will be hosting the Free Screening of “No U Turn” a multiple award winning biographical documentary on irregular migration produced by Ike Nnaebue.
The 5th AEWID taking place on the theme: Born Free Exploring the Economic, Cultural, Social and Political Intricacies sponsoring Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in todays Africa will feature side events at British Council Accra Ghana on 30th of July including Resource Mobilisation Masterclass for NGO’s , Govt Agencies and start ups. Free Mental Health Therapy Session for Survivors of Trafficking and Discourse with Survivors of Human Trafficking in the afternoon.
The 2nd Day will feature Free screening of “NO U TURN” a true life story of Ike Nnaebue’s attempt of journeying to Europe from Nigeria by road and the dangers and challenges inherent in such odyssey at Silverbird Cinema Accra Mall. “No U Turn” reflects the real issues regarding migration and the difficulties confronted by the African immigrants. The production of the documentary took the cast and crew through over 9 countries in attempt of re-capturing real life experiences of Journeying from Africa to Europe.
No U Turn is more than a personal story—it’s a mirror reflecting the dreams and desperation that drive so many young Africans to embark on perilous journeys. The film retraces the route from Nigeria through Benin, Mali, Mauritania, to Morocco—ending before Europe—interwoven with human stories that underscore the risks and hopes fueling migration.
No U Turn is a strong documentary that provides answers to questions around the motivations for migrating and experiences on the journey. Panel discussions will follow the screening featuring creative’s, diplomats, development experts, and returned migrants, interrogating global and regional approaches to human trafficking and mass migration. Stakeholders in transport and hospitality sectors—including airlines and hoteliers—are expected to engage in an embedded anti-trafficking workshop showcasing cross-sector cooperation.
The 5th AEWID will continue at the Africa Trade House on 1st August where the intercultural dialogue will be hosted with aims to galvanise cross-sector collaboration in dismantling trafficking networks and supporting ethical migration frameworks. The inclusion of culturally resonant projects like No U Turn ,free mental health therapy session for survivors of trafficking and discourse with survivors ensures that human stories remain central to policy innovation at the 5th AEWID.
