To Nkumu, music is a universal language that transcends boundaries. It’s a tool for expressing the richness of culture and history. Through his work, he highlights the three forms of human struggles: cultural justice, social justice, and global justice.
Join us on Friday, September 15th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Bowling Green, Broadway & Whitehall St. (by the bull statue) to celebrate the National Heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Get ready to immerse yourself in the rich traditions, music, and dance of Congo as we raise the Congolese flag high!
Highlights of the event include the Flag Raising Ceremony, live performances showcasing Congolese culture, traditional music and dance, and interactive cultural activities.
This event is made possible by the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs and the NYC African Council, an ad hoc committee bridging African affairs. The Bowling Green Association will keep the flag flying for two weeks, symbolically bringing Congo to the forefront during the UN General Assembly.
