Preparations are in full swing for the 5th edition of the African Elders and Women Intercultural Dialogue, an advocacy event aimed at re-imagining Africa’s future through a cultural and legislative lens. Returning to Ghana eight years after its inaugural edition at the Accra International Conference Centre in April 2017,this year’s dialogue seeks to challenge entrenched post-colonial norms that continue to hinder the development of Africa’s youth and women, with the ultimate goal of inspiring policy and legislative reforms across the continent.
In a significant development, the event organisers have partnered with Placements Ghana to host a three-day Masterclass on Resource Mobilisation. This side event is tailored for civil society leaders, government agency staff, and directors of NGOs, and will run concurrently with the main dialogue.
The 3Day Resource Mobilisation Masterclass will cover key topics including institutional fundraising, non-financial resource mobilisation, self-financing, financial sustainability, corporate partnerships, and crowdfunding. Designed to equip participants with practical tools and strategic insights, the sessions aim to enhance participants’ financial acumen and ability to build sustainable, fundable initiatives within their respective organisations.
Leading the Masterclass is Mr. Kofi Awity, a distinguished development consultant and lead partner at Placements Ghana Ltd. With over two decades of international experience across Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
Mr. Awity brings deep expertise in aid effectiveness, grant management, and advocacy-driven fundraising. His career spans multiple sectors including democracy and governance, youth development, economic integration, and civil society strengthening. He is also renowned for delivering customised capacity-building programs for NGO leaders and government officials.
The main event will be held from July 29 to August 2, 2025, at the British Council Auditorium and Africa Trade House in Accra, Ghana, under the theme: “Born Free – Exploring the Economic, Political, Social, and Cultural Intricacies Sponsoring Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in Today’s Africa.”
Key features of the 2025 Dialogue include:
• An Anti-Trafficking Workshop targeted at stakeholders in the transport and hospitality sectors—such as airline, maritime, road transport operators, travel agencies, and hotel managers—who play a critical role in combating human trafficking and smuggling.
• The premiere of “No U Turn”, an award-winning European-funded documentary directed by Ike Nnaebue, which chronicles irregular migration across nine African countries.
• Panel discussions featuring international development leaders, diplomats, lawmakers, industry captains, and youth and women from across Africa.
The Dialogue remains committed to fostering legislative and cultural shifts that empower Africa’s youth and women.
