Born and raised in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, he now resides in New York City. Nkumu is the founder of Nkumu Katalay & The “Life Long Project” Band, an Afro Congolese Jazz/Ndombolo and Rumba group, and The “Afrocongolesedance Troupe,” also known as “Makita Ya Ndombolo.”
