Kim Poole, the soul-fusion singer-songwriter from Baltimore, is releasing her new single “Liberia” on January 22nd, 2024. The song is a fusion of Afrobeats and 70’s funky music, inspired by the history and culture of Liberia, the West African nation founded by freed slaves.
Poole, who has been traveling the world and sharing her music medicine with diverse audiences, said that she wanted to create a song that honors the spirit of liberation and freedom that Liberia represents. “Liberia is a place where people can be themselves, where they can express their creativity and their identity, where they can celebrate their heritage and their future,” she said.
The song features upbeat rhythms, catchy melodies, and powerful vocals that showcase Poole’s range and versatility. Poole said that she was influenced by the music legends of the 70’s, such as Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, and Nina Simone, as well as the contemporary sounds of Afrobeats, which originated in Nigeria and Ghana. “I wanted to create a song that bridges the gap between the past and the present, between the African and the American, between the soul and the funk,” she said.
The song will be premiered on Liberia’s #1 radio station, Truth FM 96.1, as well as other popular stations, such as ELBC, Kool FM, OK FM, and Spoon FM. The song will also be available on various music streaming platforms via the Kim Poole Music Group.
Poole, who emerged from the underground music scene with a commanding presence, said that she hopes that her song will inspire people to embrace their freedom and their funk. “I want people to feel the joy and the energy that I felt when I wrote this song, to dance and to sing along, to celebrate their lives and their dreams,” she said.
Poole is currently working on her debut album, which will feature more of her soul-fusion songs. She said that she plans to continue traveling and performing around the world, taking audiences on a soul music journey; a Kim Poole Experience.
