On Africa Day 2025, amid economic volatility, conflicts, climate crises, hunger, and geopolitical tension, the African Civil Society Reference Group Inc. (ACSRG) reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rights, dignity, and future of Africa and people of African descent.

Africa, a continent of over 1.5 billion brothers and sisters, receives more than $90 billion annually in remittances from its diaspora. Yet, it faces mounting challenges—ranging from conflict and displacement to rising economic costs and shrinking investments. These realities present both urgent challenges and powerful opportunities for innovative, coordinated, and lasting solutions centered on “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.”

ACSRG welcomes strategic initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and increased multilateral engagement, including advocacy for Africa’s permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council. These initiatives reflect a shift toward inclusive global decision-making and recognize Africa’s leadership potential—especially in renewable energy and sustainable development.

As we commemorate Africa Day, ACSRG calls on multilateral agencies, multilateral development banks, regional economic communities, governments, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, private sectors, academia, donors, and the global community to:

  • Accelerate action toward justice and prosperity for Africa and its people;
  • Strengthen laws and accountability frameworks;
  • Invest in people-centered initiatives, infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, technology, and fintech as tools for empowerment and poverty alleviation;
  • Support training, technical assistance, knowledge-sharing, and peacebuilding efforts to end hostilities and promote stability.

The African Civil Society Reference Group Inc., a leading platform advocating for women and children across Africa, stands in solidarity with all Africans—on the continent and in the diaspora. We celebrate those working relentlessly to restore hope, dignity, and prosperity. Let us continue to amplify voices, advance equity, and create a world where every woman, man, girl, and boy can live free from harm, fear, and injustice—and rise to fulfill their destiny.
